Independent Marine Systems

Independent Marine Systems was established in 1995 as a yacht management company specializing with refitting and repair of vessels.  The natural transition to Marine Surveying shortly followed. Our great reputation and extensive experience allowed us to concentrate on Composite built vessels. Our experience with Composites has lead us to be called upon on for many types of vessels including sail and power. We offer Marine Surveying, Management and Technical Consultation. An additional part of our business is offering Thermal Infrared Inspections.  We have based our operation in Newport, Rhode Island, USA and operate out of South Florida in the winter months although we frequently travel worldwide.

 

Mark Ashton

Mark Ashton, our lead Surveyor and Infrared Thermographer has worked in the marine industry for over 30 years.  What began as working as crew led to being the Captain on primarily sailing vessels on the East Coast of the US, The Caribbean and the Mediterranean.  He remains active in the professional sailing world and retains his USCG license in good standing.   He trained as a Marine Surveyor under Mike Taylor of Taylor Marine using the National Association of Marine Surveyors guidelines and is currently an Accredited Marine Surveyor with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors.  He is a level one Thermographer having trained at the Infrared Training Center, Massachusetts.  He is a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council.
